Harriet Harman,What was she thinking?

Gordon Browns speech yesterday afternoon at Brighton was a farce as far as I am concerned, it was a speech of desperation and self interest, getting his poor wife to stand up and list all his qualities to the audience both in the hall and on TV was a sign of man who is trying everything he can to stay in the job that he was not elected to do.

A very dangerous person, would you let her baby sit for your kid's?? I think not

Thanking  Harriet Harman was a bad idea, What has she done for this country other than to introduce  politically correct diversity and equality laws, she has introduced laws that will for the first time mean employers can discriminate against white people when there is a choice between black and white, this woman is mad, she does not understand anything about the people of this country nor where they are coming from politically, she hates men and the traditional family, she say’s that men are not important when it comes to raising children, and the government wonder why we have so many feral children running about causing havoc.

The article below taken from the Telegraph Newspaper shows what a sick and twisted creature she really is, please read it and pass it along to your friends-

The Leader of the House of Commons and Minister for Women and Equality, who also sits on a Cabinet committee on young people’s welfare, is being touted as a possible successor to Gordon Brown, .

But she faces fresh criticism from Opposition MPs and campaign groups after The Daily Telegraph obtained documents showing that she called on ministers to make sexually explicit photographs or films of children legal unless there was evidence that the subject had been harmed.

At the time she made the official submission, she was a senior figure in a civil liberties organisation that wanted the age of consent to be lowered to 14 and incest decriminalised. It also defended self-confessed paedophiles in the press and allowed them to attend its meetings.

Last night Tim Loughton, the Shadow Children’s Minister, said: “Clearly there is a serious conflict of interest with the committees she sits on, who might want urgently to clarify her position on the exploitation of children for the sexual gratification of adults.

“It’s a shame that Miss Harman’s zeal for positive discrimination and all things politically correct among adults does not extend to the exploitation of children. Any child who is used for the sexual gratification of adults counts as an abused child and needs protecting.”

Miss Harman, 58, was a newly qualified solicitor when she became legal officer for the National Council for Civil Liberties, now known as Liberty, in 1978. At the time its general secretary was Patricia Hewitt, who went on to become health secretary under Tony Blair.

Among the groups affiliated to NCCL were the Paedophile Information Exchange and Paedophile Action for Liberation, whose members argued openly for the abolition of the age of consent. NCCL complained to the press watchdog about their treatment by tabloid newspapers and said in one article: “We support any organisation that seeks to campaign for anything it wants within the law. They have that right.”

In NCCL’s official response to the Government’s plans to reform sex laws, dubbed a “Lolita’s Charter”, it suggested reducing the age of consent and argued that “childhood sexual experiences, willingly engaged in, with an adult result in no identifiable damage”. It claimed that children can suffer more from having to retell their experiences in court or the press.

Amid growing public concern about adults preying on children, the Protection of Children Bill was put before Parliament in order to tighten the laws on child pornography by banning indecent images of under-16s.

NCCL’s official response, signed by Miss Harman and submitted in April 1978, claimed that the new law could lead to “damaging and absurd prosecutions” and “increase censorship”.

She suggested that a pornographic photo or film of a child should not be considered indecent unless it could be shown that the subject had suffered, and that prosecutors would have to prove harm rather than defendants having to justify themselves.

Her submission states: “Although this harm may be of a somewhat speculative nature, where participation falls short of physical assault, it is none-the-less justifiable to restrain activities by photographer which involve placing children under the age of 14 (or, arguably, 16) in sexual situations.

“We suggest that the term ‘indecent’ be qualified as follows: – A photograph or film shall not for this purpose be considered indecent (a) by reason only that the model is in a state of undress (whether complete or partial); (b) unless it is proved or is to be inferred from the photograph or film that the making of the photograph or film might reasonably be expected to have caused the model physical harm or pronounced psychological or emotional disorder.”

It adds: “Our amendment places the onus of proof on the prosecution to show that the child was actually harmed.”

Miss Harman left NCCL in 1982 when she was elected MP for Camberwell and Peckham, by which time several members of PIE had been jailed for conspiracy to corrupt public morals.

A spokesman for Miss Harman said: “She has always opposed child pornography and has never supported PIE and to suggest that she did is untrue and misleading.

“NCCL’s approach to the protection of children’s bill was to argue for clear definitions in the bill to make sure the law was precise so that it was about child protection and not about censorship.”

The spokesman added: “PIE had been excluded from the NCCL before she became legal officer.”

However press cuttings from 1983 make it clear that it was still considered an “affiliate group”.

New media in particular blogs are growing.

Old media is in decline:

“…While old media is still on top, the trends in the survey, which has been conducted each of the last three years, point to a familiar story: media consumption habits are quickly changing. That said, some forms of new media are performing much better than others. For example:

- Blogs are now used by 24% of Internet users, up from 13% in 2006

- Social networks are now used by 26% of Internet users, up from 17% in 2006

- Videocasts are now used by 11% of Internet users, up from 6% in 2006

Background Articles and Videos Old Media

“… The old media or legacy media are traditional means of communication and expression that have existed since before the advent of the new medium of the Internet. Industries that are generally considered part of the old media are broadcast and cable television, radio, movie and music studios, newspapers, magazines, books and most print publications. Many of those industries are now less profitable than they used to be and this is has been attributed to the growth of the new media.

Old media, also known as traditional media, comprise art forms like music, dance, puppetry, street plays, theatres, fine art, folk-art and tribal art. Traditional media are used to spread awareness about social messages, social evils, bad practices that need to be stopped. In West Bengal, India, puppetry was used to create awareness about HIV and AIDS. …”

Making Old Media New Again

“….It’s make-or-break time for many newspapers. Denver and Seattle recently lost dailies, the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times are both in bankruptcy, and owners of the Boston Globe and San Francisco Chronicle threaten closure. One reader mourned the loss of her local newspaper in Connecticut by lamenting that she had gone from living in a city to living off just another exit on Interstate 95. As comedian Stephen Colbert put it last week, “The impending death of the newspaper industry: Where will they print the obituary?” …”

“…The recession is accelerating these trends, with advertising so soft even Web-only news operations, which don’t have the legacy costs of print, are now struggling to support journalism. …”

Policing the public gaze

The assaults on citizen photography continue

This one almost got away from me, I’ve had it hanging around in my bookmarks for a while but I’ve been so busy lately that this blog has had to take a bit of a back seat.

The Manifesto Club’s publication of Pauline Hadaway’s report reveals nothing particularly new but does highlight the need to keep the issue out in the open and in front of our politicians. About 18 months ago, for instance, I was assured by an officer of South Tyneside District Council that small notices were going to be erected at certain venues along South Shields sea front (the South Marine Park, Bents Park, and the covered Promenade and Amphitheatre) advising people that photographers were operating in the area, that it was lawful, and nothing to be wary of. This followed a spate of complaints from some parents that their children had been photographed in public, or that photographers were being denied lawful access to public events in public places by officials who thought they were looking after our safety and well being. Those notices never appeared!

So little joy for citizen photographers, although it is fair to say that I for one have seen less of a threat from council officials, police, PCSOs, or security stewards over the past twelve months in South Shields. The wider problem still exists throughout the UK, and as Pauline’s report illustrates there is a pervasive and sinister attempt to have the cameras put away, the irrational fear is that anyone seen with a large camera in a public place must be viewed as either a child molester or a terrorist. Yet if if you are seen to be taking pictures with a mobile phone nobody will suspect anything out of the ordinary – it really is a quite extraordinary state of affairs when public paranoia spreads to the innocent recording of life which we have done since the invention of the pin hole camera.

Hadaway argues that it is important that people are able to take spontaneous photographs of public life, whether of children or any other contemporary touchy subjects: ‘We need to stop this self-censorship.’

Clever things from other people

Amusing things from around the internet, because I have a desperate need to procrastinate but no energy with which to do so:

——

First of all, we find that Bastiat est de retour in the form of Bryan Caplan’s muse:

  • Basic economics is intuitive (Library of Economics and Liberty)

Dr. Caplan presents four reformulations of “counterintuitive” propositions in more intuitive form, usually by going to one extreme and stepping back slightly.  Consider:

Counterintuitive claim: Free trade makes countries richer, even if the other countries have big advantages like cheaper labor or more advanced technology.

Intuitive version:  We’d be better off if other countries gave us stuff for free.  Isn’t “really cheap” the next-best thing?

He solicits requests in the comments.

——

Next we visit an evil right-wing gun blog.  See, it’s got guns in it, so it must be evil and right-wing.

  • Yeah, that’s my fear (SayUncle)

Being evil and right-wing and stuff (you can tell ’cause of the guns), SayUncle… tears a strip off of Rep. Steve King (R-IA), who apparently believes that gay marriage is ‘part of a socialist agenda to undermine “the foundations of individual rights and liberties”’ and isn’t ashamed to say it in public:

Yeah, they’re the ones doing that. It was totally the gays who passed roving wiretaps; mandated two flush toilets; made it a felony to import lobsters in bags and not boxes; eliminated my right to choose which light bulbs I can use; mandated that all my banking transactions be monitored; and said I needed a proctological exam to board an airplane. That was the gays alright and not boneheads whose names start with Rep.

But wait, it gets better!  In the comments we discover this gem:

When a Republican starts talking about individual rights and liberties, they’re basically just making a gang sign. The only purpose is to say specific phrases that identify them to other Republicans as a member of the tribe.

Republican gang signs.  I love it.

——

Via Offsetting Behaviour, we next discover that the Scottish BrewDog brewery have released… well, I’ll just link and quote:

  • Brewery launches low-alcohol beer, calls it Nanny State (Brad Taylor’s Blog)

A brewery has launched a low alcohol beer called Nanny State after being branded irresponsible for creating the UK’s “strongest beer”.

Scottish brewer BrewDog, of Fraserburgh, was criticised for Tokyo* which has an alcohol content of 18.2%

…sorry, I sorta glazed over for a minute there. 18.2% beer, eh?  Someone tell Stone.  But if you thought that was funny, enjoy this:

Jack Law, chief executive of Alcohol Focus Scotland, said of the new Nanny State beer: “This is a positive move which proves that low strength doesn’t compromise quality.”

(”Jack Law”?  Really?)

——

Next, skippystalin enjoins tourists in Canada to experience this country’s subtle and complex social narrative:

If there’s one thing I’d invite my foreign readership to do, it would be to hitch-hike across the country and ask every local they see, “Why isn’t there someone from Toronto here telling you what to do?” Oh, the friends you’ll make that way! Nothing is more popular in Canada than Toronto.

That last sentence is patently true: most of us would seize upon the option of replacing Toronto with nothing.

——

Finally, how about some anarchocapitalist agitprop?

  • The Probability Broach: The Graphic Novel (L. Neil Smith & Scott Beiser / Big Head Press)
  • Alongside Night (J. Neil Schulman / pulpless.com)

Sex, violence, and elemental gold as a medium of exchange.  What’s not to like?

(Rumors that my middle name is “Neil” and that my last starts with “S” are largely unsubstantiated.)

CDC Drafts Isolation Order for H1N1

Kurt Nimmo
Infowars
September 28, 2009

The following draft of an “isolation order” was discovered on the  CDC’s website. It is a template for state and local officials to impose quarantines and what would effectively be martial law.

“Your illness [as determined by state and local officials] requires that you be isolated and requires further public health investigation and monitoring.”

Failure to obey will result in imprisonment without bail prior to trial and the possiblity of a two year prison term.

In other words, according to this document, officials can impose quarantine without evidence that somebody is actually infected with a virus that is now negligible at best. It may also be used to quarantine potentially millions of people suffering from any number of illnesses — or not suffering from any disease at the discretion of the state — that have nothing to do with H1N1. It is basically a carte blanche for martial law under the cover of protecting the public from a communicable disease that is demonstrably a manufactured and weaponized threat.

American Police State

According to the United State Constitution, American Citizens HAVE the right to “peaceably assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”  When did that right disappear?  As you can see below American’s no longer have Constitutional rights.  We are in a Police State run by both political parties for the sake of maintaining power.  No longer to our officials respect or obey the Constitution.  No longer to our officials care for the people.  It’s all about power an money!!  No longer do our police officials protect us.  They protect their fascist leaders!!  Revolution is here and it’s time to fight back to restore our great land to it’s Constitutional foundations!!

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Now It's Your Turn - Fight Back America

After watching Glenn Beck’s “Mom’s” show,  feel as though people all over this great country of ours are becoming aware of the perils that face us. I feel as though people all over this great country of ours are becoming aware of the perils that face us. I now feel hopeful because the majority refuses to stay silent any longer. WE SURROUND THEM! An overwhelming majority of citizens, particularly those who pay attention and make it their obligation to find out what is actually happening in our country, are beginning to speak out. The forces wanting to rip our country apart, to take our freedoms so long fought for, have intimidated us into silence for too long. We The People are breaking free from the mind control imposed on us by “political correctness”. “Political correctness” is nothing more than a euphemism for CHAINS – not change. It is the whip they use to keep us in our cage. The American citizenry have begun to break those chains and will no longer be held to their standard of freedom.    I could not watch Glenn’s show last night, but had to watch this morning. Our Dear Leader felt compelled to arrive late for his UN daily dose of “change” speech making sure he started just after 5PM. In my humble opinion, it was another of his immature swipes at his opposition. You know, when criticism does not appear to work, when union bosses can not intimidate and when television remotes are a constitutional right, then just preempt the leading television show of your opposition. Force yourself upon the masses, whether they want to listen or not. This may be why his FCC head and Czar are trying to remove free speech from our airwaves and internet. When you can’t control the message, control the airwaves – reminds me of countries such as Venezuela and others around the world where the government owns the conversation. But I digress.   I was surprised and delighted to see these average Moms speak of how the United Nations are seeking, and succeeding, from taking our country from us. I was surprised and delighted to hear them speak of the unconstitutional monetary policy now in play and how they fear our US dollar may be out of existence within five years, replaced by an international currency. I was happy to hear they know of the UN holding our children’s education hostage, with the help of the teacher’s union and others. They all know. They are aware of assault facing us as citizens. Many said they had felt alone before Glenn’s 9/12 Project show compelling people to ban together. Now they know, they are NOT alone.   Glenn Beck always admonishes us that he “is not our voice” and that “we need to find our own voice”. Of course, we know we have a voice, but he is the one with the microphone. For that we are grateful. Someone with access to millions is speaking up. This encourages others to speak up.   To that accord, along with my suggestions in yesterday’s column, allow me suggest ways in which we can speak up. Yesterday I asked if everyone would send out a daily email or letter or make a daily call to local, state and federal government officials. Today I am asking you to bombard your local papers, and the national papers, with letters to the editor. Today I am asking you attend your local and state government meetings. If you can not attend, acquire a transcript. CHANGE TRICKLES UP, not down. Fight at all levels of government. Support state sovereignty bills now pending in most states. If your state does not have one in legislation now, force them to. Do not let the bill languish in committee, as it is doing in so many states. Apply pressure.   Call in to not just conservative shows, but those with the fortitude to do so should call Liberal talk shows, write to liberal editors and confront liberal progressive friends with the truth of what they are doing. Make them think! They are so used to singing the “collective” song they forget how to think for themselves. Many belong to unions who are used to bullying them into voting a certain way. Many do not realize their voices have been co-opted by a ventriloquist called progressivism.   Our opposition is very vocal and counts on us to be quiet. Disappoint them, please. Our opposition is organized and counts on us to be an unorganized mass of separate voices. Let us learn to team up, to work together, and to at first, shout them down, then to shut them down all together.   There are many, many more of us. Do not be afraid. Use your real name. Wear a button. Get a bumper sticker. Tattoo it on your forehead if you have to.  Do NOT remain in the shadow. That is of vital importance. Do NOT allow them to keep you “in the closet” as some of the Moms said on Glenn Beck’s show.   WE ARE THE MAJORITY. By working together it is not necessary that you give up your own voice. We must all work together by working separately. Influence those around you, not only by teaching them what is really happening, but by compelling them to use their voice to speak out against it.   I know in my heart most Americans are not on board with turning our country over to the United Nations. I know in my heart most Americans cherish their freedom. I know in my heart most Americans want to be free.   They are trying to turn this into a debate on race, a debate on capitalism and greed versus sharing. It is none of those. It is America versus One World Order. Plain and simple. To think otherwise is to not see the big picture, I’m afraid. If this little girl can speak out, I know you can!

US Obamabarmy Education.

Fred Bloggs.

Now in America school children are being taught to sing the praises of Obama, literally.
Heres the lyrics:

Mmm, mmm, mm!

Barack Hussein Obama
He said that all must lend a hand [?]
To make this country strong again
Mmm, mmm, mm!

Barack Hussein Obama
He said we must be clear today
Equal work means equal pay
Mmm, mmm, mm!

Barack Hussein Obama
He said that we must take a stand
To make sure everyone gets a chance
Mmm, mmm, mm!

Barack Hussein Obama
He said Red, Yellow, Black or White
All are equal in his sight
Mmm, mmm, mm!

Barack Hussein Obama
Yes
Mmm, mmm, mm!

Barack Hussein Obama

Hip, hip hooray! (3x)

Please don’t give Gordon ideas, we would be singing “The Ode of the one eyed Scotsman”

To envy a tyrant's power

Michael Ledeen on Barack Obama:

American politics are very fractious, and always have been. Leaders are constantly frustrated, and some of them come to yearn for an end to our freedom. They think they know best, they just want to tell us what to do and have us shut up and do it. I think Obama is one of them. He’s not naïve. It’s different. He doesn’t like the way things work here, he thinks he can do much better, and he’s possessed of the belief that America has done a lot of terrible things in the world, and should be prevented from doing such things ever again. The two convictions mesh perfectly. It’s The Best and the Brightest run amok.

Democratic leaders’ envy of tyrants’ power can be understood. But it can’t be forgiven.

Why I Don't Care What the World Thinks

Tonight I am going to talk briefly about the speech that the President gave today at the United Nations. Then I am going to explain why he is dead wrong and bad for America. I listened to the speech because I wanted to hear what he was going to say to the world. As I have said in the recent past, I am past the point of believing that the President is going to do anything that will make this country, better, stronger, faster than it was before (how many of you recognize that as part of the opening for “The Six Million Dollar Man”? I loved when Steve Austin battled Bigfoot). He has a vision for America. And his vision is horribly wrong. So was George Bush’s vision, for the record. And it is time that we started looking at things the way they are rather than the way the politicians tell us they are. It is time we started remembering why this country came to the greatness that it did, and stop these out of control Washington lunatics from turning it into the economic and industrial wasteland that the majority of the world has become.

As we all know, many of the world leaders have gathered at the United Nations in order to address the “world governing body” on various subjects. He spoke on the illegitimacy of Israeli settlements in the Gaza strip (a topic I will be covering early next week). He spoke tough words to North Korea and Iran. And when addressing the general assembly on the topic of world governance, he made the following statement:

“Nothing is easier than blaming others for our troubles and absolving ourselves of responsibility for our choices and our actions. Anyone can do that. Responsibility and leadership in the 21st century demands more. In an era when our destiny is shared, power is no longer a zero sum game. No one nation can or should try to dominate another nation. No world order that elevates one nation or group of people over another will succeed. No balance of power among nations will hold,”

and later in the same speech:

“Now is the time for all of us to do our part. Growth will not be sustained or shared unless all nations embrace their responsibility. Wealthy nations must open their markets to more goods and extend a hand to those with less, while reforming international institutions to give more nations a greater voice.”

Throw in a little bit of a speech in Berlin prior to the election:

“The burdens of global citizenship continue to bind us together. A change of leadership in Washington will not lift this burden. In this new century, Americans and Europeans alike will be required to do more — not less. Partnership and cooperation among nations is not a choice; it is the one way, the only way, to protect our common security and advance our common humanity”

And maybe a touch of Cairo:

“Given our interdependence, any world order that elevates one nation or group of people over another will inevitably fail.  So whatever we think of the past, we must not be prisoners to it.  Our problems must be dealt with through partnership; our progress must be shared.”

Now I am not going to jump on a conspiracy bandwagon and start talking about how Barack Obama wants to secretly form some sort of “one world government.” Because I don’t think that he wants to do such a thing. I know that some of you do believe that. You are entitled to that belief, but I do not share it. What I believe that the President wants to do is bring America down to the level of the rest of the world. I don’t think that he views it in quite that way. But that is the end result of the path he is discussing. Just stick with me here a moment while I explain and make my position a bit more clear.

I believe that Barack Obama thinks that the world is more important than the United States. I think he really believes that our fate must be linked to the fate of the rest of the world when it comes to prosperity, education, and treatment of the people. And because of this we have seen him do a lot of “apologizing” for what America has become. We have seen him do a lot of promising that we will do more to recognize the greatness of other countries and cultures. He has basically, in my opinion, decided that America is no better and no more important than any other country in the world. And I have to be honest and say that I have a real problem with that sentiment.

I acknowledge that the United States has made plenty of bad decisions in terms of how we involve ourselves with the nations of the world. Many past Presidents from both parties overstepped their bounds and got us involved in things we had no business being involved in. I could list for hours and hours the mistakes we made. I could list for hours all the legitimate reasons that many countries out there have for hating everything about America. I think Barack Obama sees this too. But his response to it is to grovel at the feet of the world, ask for forgiveness, and buy positive world opinion by sacrificing what America stands for. I intend to support no such action.

I have watched the attacks on the American way of life for the last 20 years from those on both sides of the aisle. Let us not pretend that it is only the Democrats. Certainly the attacks from the “liberal left” are more identifiable. The espousal of socialism (or some form of it), the subversion of American common sense by the environmentalists, and the blatant and ongoing attack on capitalism happening every day (most recently done with another propaganda piece from resident loon Michael Moore). But the “conservative right” has done no better. Subversion of human natural rights to conform people to religious dogma, the use of fear campaigns to involve us in foreign conflicts and usurp our rights through misnomers such as the “Patriot Act”, and slightly more perversion of capitalism than the Democrats can be accused of (only slightly more though).

I am through with supporting those who don’t recognize the greatness of America. There are many things we need to fix, but even with all of our faults we are the greatest nation on earth. But we won’t be for long if we continue to subvert our principles and values in order to “fit in” and “play nice” with the rest of the world. Let me be clear up front with one or two points. I have already stated my desire for a “defense only” posture for our military. We need not be the world police. We need not “protect our interests” throughout the world. In this the Democrats are correct. We should not fear war, but we should never takes steps to seek it. Second, we must take steps to ensure that we are dealing in business with the rest of the world with integrity and honesty. This has not been the case as we have exploited anyone we could for our gain. Much like my social darwinism beliefs, if we cannot deal with the world honestly and without coercion, then we deserve to fall from the ranks of the world’s elite countries.

Capitalism is a key to our past success. Anyone who does not understand that is either limited in their intelligence or intentionally being dim. Our free market system allowed a country to go from “13 savage colonies” to one of the most powerful and successful countries in the world in less than two centuries. The key to that statement is that it was a FREE market that allowed this to happen. Were there bad people along the way? Sure. But that doesn’t take away the fact that the free market capitalism that this country espoused was the catalyst for the largest expansion of knowledge, industrial capability, and “middle class” in history. Henceforth, anyone who attempts to tell me that socialism (the mindset of “I want to be led”) or communism (the mindset of “I want to be ruled”) or fascism (the mindset of “I want to be controlled) is better than capitalism will be taken to task by me for failing to have a grip on reality. Don’t bother to attempt to argue that “big, mean, unethical” business required government control. I will beat you there too. This country began its decline the day government began its intervention into the private industries.

But the real secret to why the United States came to be the great country that it became was freedom and liberty. We founded this country on those premises. The premise that we have rights as human beings that override the government, that override EVERYTHING. It was the recognition of those rights that made our country unique. Our country was formed differently and defined differently from any in history. But for two hundred years, we have allowed those who lay claim to some “moral enlightenment” to steal from us those liberties and freedoms that made us what we are.

Despite that, America has been a beacon of light for people throughout the world for all of our history. Would it surprise anyone to know that we have, on average, 1.3 million immigrants to this country every year. And those are just the legal immigrants, not those changing status or coming here illegally. It shouldn’t surprise you. It also should not surprise anyone to know that we have 3 times the number of immigrants annually than any other country on earth. America is where the world comes to make a better life. Many leave countries that live under one of the other “isms” for true opportunity under capitalism. Many leave countries where the freedom they seek is not provided to come to one where it is the basis of what we were founded on.

America is a great country. She has lost a little bit of her shine over the last 50 years. But she is still the best there is. We need to fix her problems. We need to break out the cleaner and shine her up again. But doing so does not equate to subverting ourselves to the whims of the rest of the world. Our President doesn’t understand this. But I am hoping someone will forward him the blog.

The answer to our problems, fellow Americans, does not lie in becoming what the rest of the world is. That should be the last thing we want to do. Why would we want to follow Europe into the crapper? What part of Africa’s governments and social structures do we find appealing? South America has as many countries where, either they operate under a dictatorship posing as a legitimate government, or where the drug trade is the largest contributor to GDP, as there are legitimate countries. China has treated its people as pawns in government’s game for centuries, and only now has begun to aspire to change into what America provided an example of. The middle east is, well, the middle east. Why would we want to be what any other country in the entire world currently is?

President Obama ended his speech in Cairo with the following passage:

I know that for more than two centuries, we have strived – at great cost and great sacrifice – to form a more perfect union; to seek, with other nations, a more hopeful world. Our allegiance has never been to any particular tribe or kingdom – indeed, every language is spoken in our country; every culture has left its imprint on ours; every point of view is expressed in our public squares. What has always united us – what has always driven our people; what drew my father to America’s shores – is a set of ideals that speak to aspirations shared by all people: that we can live free from fear and free from want; that we can speak our minds and assemble with whomever we choose and worship as we please.

I humbly suggest that the President remember that. America has always drawn people from throughout the world on the premise that we strive to be a country of principles, of freedom and liberty, of hope and promise. We need to restore our country to the promise it once was, not change our country to mirror the rest of the world, which simply has not achieved what the United States has.

And that is why I don’t really give a crap what the rest of the world wants us to do. I don’t care what they think of capitalism or what they think of how we espouse freedom and liberty. They are not us because they don’t do what we do. And their people leave their shores to come to ours. When the United States changes herself in one way, we no longer need to worry about what the world’s opinion of us is. When we begin to get back to operating with integrity, eliminating foreign aggression, and start giving back the freedom and liberty to our citizens that is their right by the laws of nature, the world’s opinion of America will change. They will again see us as what they should strive to be, instead of expecting us to come down to their level. Our actions won’t breed hatred in the world, only envy. We need to get back to being the America that faced down England and had a mindset of self reliance and personal integrity.

And Tomorrow I will begin to talk about where we went wrong in our government and our national mindset that allowed the tarnish to begin accumulating.

Freedom Is Indivisible

Mises Daily by Bruce Winton Knight | Posted on 9/23/2009 12:00:00 AM

[From The Freeman, January 1952. An MP3 audio file of this article, read by Floy Lilley, is available for download.]

Now that our country is expected to be the foremost champion of the “free world” (for how long and at what cost nobody knows), it has become more important than ever for Americans to think clearly about American freedom. It should be quite obvious to us that our freedom is indivisible.

Since most of us must devote much of our fleeting lives to “getting and spending,” it ought to be abundantly clear that economic freedom is an integral part of our personal liberty. And yet, like Benjamin Jowett, accused of asserting that “what I don’t know isn’t knowledge,” we are actually behaving as if economic freedom either is not freedom at all or else is so trivial that we need not give it serious thought. A review of the most rudimentary facts about the nature of economic freedom and what is happening to it in the United States will show that this is the case.

Like any form of personal liberty, economic freedom means freedom to choose. Of course it is limited. Practically, we can choose only between real alternatives — and perfection is never one of the alternatives.

Morally, we are bound by the very old principle that a man is his brother’s keeper. For the consequences of our choices we are responsible not only to ourselves and our families but to our fellow men in general. Individual freedom would be social nonsense if the strong did not protect the weak from invasion of their liberty, and if the fortunate did not help the unlucky.

Economic freedom, then, lies in the area where real and responsible economic choices are made. Why should we want this area to be large rather than small? Partly because free choice can regulate an economy far more efficiently than any conceivable set of officials.

But the case for freedom goes much deeper than that. Adam Smith, so often scorned and so seldom read nowadays, properly emphasized the fact that without personal freedom and responsibility we cannot be mature human beings. The New Testament had made a similar observation long before.

Responsible freedom means self-reliance, self-discipline, self-denial. Only a nation which prizes these qualities is to be taken seriously as a defender of world freedom. Only a government which encourages them is fit to preside over a free nation. Nevertheless, our government has become the most formidable agency for restricting the area of our economic freedom.

Consider freedom to choose between consuming and saving. Since the family is our most cherished social institution, it seems reasonable that we should not be hampered in saving for our children and our own old age.

Yet for all practical purposes our government treats saving as an offense punishable by heavy fine. First it increases the difficulty of saving by burdening us with more and more onerous taxes to support its grandiose spending. Next, it decreases the money income from our savings by arbitrarily holding down the interest rate, that is, by official falsehood about the value of savings to producers. Then it employs inflation to reduce the buying power of whatever dollars we succeed in saving.

By acting like a vast counterfeiting establishment it has already cut down by more than two-fifths the actual value of any savings which we have held in the form of its own money and its own bonds since 1939. Despite all of which our president tells us that, “If inflation gets away from us and wrecks our savings…it would be the easiest victory the Kremlin could hope for.” If! And finally, having undermined our ability to save, this same government offers us “social security” — the false security of dollars which are to be whittled down by still more inflation.

Consider freedom to choose between different products. It seems reasonable that we should generally decide for ourselves what uses of our incomes give us the most satisfaction, and that producers should have to behave accordingly. Yet our government frustrates us with more official falsehoods in the form of artificial price “ceilings” and “floors.” Both common sense and centuries of history should tell us what to expect from such Gothic devices.

Ceilings, including rent ceilings, cause scarcities by increasing demand and decreasing supply. Floors, including supports for farm prices, cause gluts by increasing supply and decreasing demand.

And “social justice”? As for peacetime rent ceilings, public officials will not ration housing according to need. They dodge the unpopular task of deciding who shall give up some of his space, and how much, and who shall move in. Consequently the supply is distributed by chance and favoritism. Practically the last chance goes to the workingman with children, since his job denies him time to look for quarters and his children make him an “undesirable tenant.”

As for farm price supports, how is justice served by helping landowners more than tenants, enriching prosperous landowners more than others and increasing the cost of food to the poor? The essential meaning of these controls is that we shall not be free to choose goods according to what they are worth to us, and that production shall not be guided by our free choices.

Consider freedom to choose between different means of making a living. It seems reasonable that one who wishes to take chances on profits or losses should be free to enter a small business or buy stock in a large one, and that he should also have choices between different branches of business or self-employment. It seems reasonable that one who prefers to play it safe should be free to work for contractual wages, and that he should also have choices between different trades and different employers.

Yet our government, directly or indirectly, keeps narrowing down this area of choice. Directly, it is shutting men out of enterprises by entering more and more fields itself. Our “progress” here is toward complete socialism, under which the government would be the only enterpriser and therefore the only employer. Indirectly, it encourages labor unions which keep men out of “their” occupations by various expedients, the simplest of which is demanding such high wages that employers must either limit their labor forces or go broke.

These are merely a few examples of our government’s many and growing restrictions on our fundamental economic freedom. Why, in this “sweet land of liberty,” do we let it happen? And how, since liberalism refers to personal liberty, do we manage the astonishing feat of hailing it in the name of “liberalism”?

No doubt private enterprise is partly to blame, since sometimes the same men who have preached “free” enterprise have sought private monopoly. Again, the terror inspired by the great depression of 20 years ago — a depression caused mainly by government’s failure to discharge its primary obligation of regulating the value of money — has led us to seek security at the expense of freedom.

Part of the trouble comes from the desire to chop down those who outshine us and to get something for nothing in the process. Part of it stems from a yearning to escape from the responsibilities of freedom. But most of it seems to spring from poor thinking — visceral, astral or negligible. To deal with all the confusions of thought would seem like wrestling with a fog, or putting the devil out through the door only to have him come back through all the windows. Nevertheless, the most popular ways of confusing freedom with its direct opposite are too serious to be ignored.

Economic freedom is assailed on the almost incredible ground that it has been violated in England and America. As an exploit in logic, this is on a level with the scolding which the preacher gave the people in church because so many were absent. Yet critics imagine they are exposing liberalism when they point out the grave economic abuses which existed under the system that they carelessly call “19th-century liberalism.” The fault lay not in liberalism, but in shirking responsibilities, such as the protection of children and the poor, which are of the very essence of liberalism.

Similarly, economic freedom is charged with being a system under which the business “class” domineers over the laboring “class.” Even if this were so, which it is not, it would be a weird objection to freedom, since domination by any organized class whatever is a violation of freedom. Personal freedom is so confused with public benevolence that one who confesses dislike for the “Welfare State” is accused of hostility to the underdog. This is like arguing that if you don’t like Jones’s pills you are in favor of disease.

The history of benevolent despotisms should warn us that benevolence is not necessarily liberal. It certainly is not liberal when liberty is traded for it and “authorities” decide what is benevolent. Last winter one of our leading economists used the literal form of the “Golden Rule” to illustrate this point. For example, if you relish pie while your neighbor prefers chow mein, it would be a poor rule which said you must give him pie, thus treating him as you wish to be treated. The really golden rule — even the State Department would do well to observe it — is to treat others as they wish to be treated, provided they live up to their social responsibilities.

Freedom is confused with economic equality. It is widely supposed that anything which reduces inequality must be “liberal.” And yet, if it is a bad thing to reward equal merits unequally, it is surely no better to give equal rewards for unequal merits. As Ebenezer Elliott observed over a century ago:

What is a Communist? One who hath yearnings

For equal division of unequal earnings.

Much longer ago it was the teaching of the New Testament that the man who buries his talent should not expect reward. The slogan “Liberty, Equality and Fraternity” is a vicious contradiction when used to defend indiscriminate leveling. When we start “equalizing” unequal men we destroy liberty and establish about the sort of fraternal relations which existed between Cain and Abel.

Freedom and democracy are so generally confused that the two terms are used almost interchangeably. Yet a majority can be very despotic toward the people who happen to be outvoted. In ancient Athens democracy developed such a keen appetite for plundering those who had more money than usual that the desperate victims were finally driven to collaborate with the outside enemies of the state. As Lord Acton pointed out, democratic tyranny is worse than the autocratic brand, because an autocrat is restrained by the fear of popular resentment whereas there is no escape from a despotic majority except by flight or treason.

The chief test of a people’s fitness for self-rule is the extent of protection given to minorities. The most ominous minority problem in the United States is not the mistreatment of racial and religious groups but the subjection which is being increasingly imposed by the majority on individuals, families and voluntary associations.

British socialism, whether benevolent or not, was democratic tyranny against roughly half of the British families. In its “mixed economy” the Labour government, instead of confining itself to prescribing and enforcing general rules, branched out farther and farther into the detailed management of production and personal distribution. It dictated the forms in which the poor should receive additions to their incomes. It claimed and used the power to freeze laborers to particular occupations. Even for the majority of adults, being free once every election day to choose economic authorities is a pitiful substitute for constant freedom of economic choice.

Finally, state paternalists confuse themselves with Jehovah. Where men deserve a better economic deal, a genuine belief in freedom would generally require us to increase their money incomes and let them spend the money as they choose. But the paternalist insists that they must take the particular housing, medical care and the like which he thinks is best for them.

Why will he not trust them to choose? Because, he says, they do not know how to choose wisely. But how can they learn to choose if they are not permitted to choose? Here his real answer, however he may veil it, is that they are congenitally incapable of learning. It should be clear where such an attitude logically leads.

The farther a “Welfare State” goes — the greater the restrictions which it imposes on freedom of choice and the more people it restricts — the closer we come to the destruction of democracy itself. For the inherent philosophy of paternalism is that the “people” are children, while only the “authorities” are adults. And certainly children who were unfit to make the most elementary economic choices for themselves could not be fit to choose authorities for the endlessly complicated tasks of a centrally planned economy.

No, the authorities must choose themselves. Thus “democratic socialism” of the British type is at bottom a contradiction of terms. The socialism in it is necessarily hostile not only to economic freedom but to political freedom as well. The many weapons which its authorities may use to eliminate the nuisance of democracy need not be considered in detail.

What we must think about, if we deserve to be free, is that sooner or later, as a result of its very nature, either its socialism or its democracy will have to yield. And what we are now witnessing is the encroachment of this system, this philosophy, on our own country, which we are told must be the foremost champion of the “free world.”

Nancy Pelosi Concerning Protest and Violence

Nancy Pelosi, in what appeared to be a not so well acted emotional moment, was nearly brought to tears as she made her statement last week concerning the current degree of so-called anti-government rhetoric from the so-called right wing in this nation.

Republicans are rejecting comparisons made by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who came near to tears Thursday when she compared anti-government rhetoric over President Obama’s health care proposals to tumultuous 1970s San Francisco.

”I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw this myself in the late ’70s in San Francisco,” Pelosi told reporters, her voice catching in her throat at her weekly press briefing.

Pelosi, though she didn’t elaborate on the reference, was alluding to the 1978 murders of Mayor George Moscone and city Supervisor Harvey Milk, a gay rights activist immortalized in a recent movie starring Sean Penn.

Pelosi Health Reform Rhetoric Reminiscent of Violence in ’70s – Political News – FOXNews_com.htm

This is simply an attempt by Pelosi to suppress those protesting against this leftist, statist government by painting the protesters as dangerous since she does not agree with their viewpoints.  Others have attempted to suppress the masses by painting them as racist.  Perhaps it would serve this country better if Pelosi and company would stop worrying about imagined future violence and instead consider actually listening to the people.  The people have a right to protest against this government.  A federal government which over the course of my lifetime has continued to become more intrusive, unresponsive, and dictatorial.  A government that continues to spend money as if there is no tomorrow, enslaving both the present generation and those to come with debt which can never be paid, a debt that will eventually lead to the destruction of our economic stability and our store of wealth.  A government controlled, not by the people, but by those entrenched in power, maintained by the passing of laws and granting of special privileges to those in power.  A government responsible for the creation of a dependency class, creating an ever growing population of those that depend upon the government for sustenance and daily living.  The outcome of which is a belief among much of the population that all we have is a direct result of the government as opposed to hard work, capitalism, independence, individualism, liberty, and entrepreneurship.  A dependency that creates a self-preservation desire to maintain the ‘hand that feeds’ so that incumbents are seldom voted out of office.

It would seem, that instead of warning of the dangers of the rhetoric of a few of the fringe protestors, it would make more sense to address the concerns of this obviously large group of people who are demanding a ‘government by the people.’  A government that upholds traditional American values.  A government that is fiscally responsible.  These grievances, however,  will not be given serious consideration since they do not represent the view of those currently in control.  Instead they will attempt to ‘shut up’ the opposition to the current state of affairs by labeling those who protest as ‘racist’ or to warn that such political speech could led some to violence, thus it becomes the responsibility of those seeking redress of grievances to not protest too loudly or speak to strongly as you may then be responsible for inciting violence.

Perhaps the leaders of this nation, including Nancy Pelosi, should open a good United States history book (not one on the current adoption list of any public school) and examine the history of political unrest and protest in this nation.  I see nothing occurring today that is even close to some of the examples of protest that have occurred in the past.  Protest that often was quite extreme, some of which I do not necessarily condone,  but protest that helped to shape and mold this country, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse.  Protest that included such acts as trespassing on private property and confiscating a shipment of tea and throwing it into the harbor, burning of presidents and other leaders in effigy, burning of American flags, riots that destroyed large amounts of both public and private property, bombings, secession and even violence in the halls of congress.  I do not see any of this today.  I see people standing up and petitioning their government in a civil manner, in fact, quite well behaved considering the passions that are rightly being exhibited.

Background Articles and Videos Sean Hannity: Barack Obama’s White House and the NEA Propaganda Scandal

Dear President Obama:

A recent blog post by Los Angeles-based artist Patrick Courrielche details an August 10, 2009, conference call hosted by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), the White House Office of Public Engagement, and United We Serve.  The stated purpose of the call was to encourage a select group of artists “to help lay a new foundation for growth, focusing on core areas of the recovery agenda – health care, energy and environment, safety and security, education, community renewal.”  According to Mr. Courrielche, the NEA and the White House were “steering the art community toward creating art on the very issues that are currently under contentious national debate; those being health care reform and cap-and-trade legislation.”  See http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/pcourrielche/2009/08/25/the-national-endowment-for-the-art-of-persuasion-patrick-courrielche/.

If accurate, Mr. Courrielche’s account of this conference call organized and hosted by your Administration raises a number of serious concerns.  First and foremost among these concerns is the participation of the NEA in a conversation “steering” the arts community toward a pro-Administration political message.

As you know, the NEA is the largest annual funder of the arts in the United States.  And the imprimatur of an NEA grant often spurs private funding, making NEA grant decisions even more powerful within the arts community.  But, as former NEA Chairman Dana Gioia wrote in 2007, “[t]he NEA does not dictate arts policy to the United States . . . .”  Indeed, as Gioia observes, this feature is what distinguishes the NEA from other nations’ centralized ministries of culture.

A reasonable observer would view the NEA’s participation in the August 10 call as implying that NEA grant opportunities (i.e., taxpayer dollars) may be tied to artists’ willingness to use their creative talents to advance your Administration’s political agenda.  This is not, and has never been, the purpose of the NEA.

Such politicization of the NEA is particularly dangerous at a time when the arts community struggles for philanthropy.  But even if no NEA funding was intended for political purposes, one cannot escape the disturbing impression that this Administration-including appointees within the White House and the NEA-believes that it is appropriate for the federal government to enlist the arts community for the purpose of furthering a specific political agenda.  I agree with President John F. Kennedy, who said that “[w]e must never forget that art is not a form of propaganda; it is a form of truth.”

I urge you to make clear that your Administration will never allocate taxpayer dollars to artists based on their support for Administration policy initiatives.  Further, I respectfully request that you take the necessary steps to ensure that the NEA-and the American arts community it supports-remain independent from political manipulation by the White House.

This episode appears to merit congressional hearings and sustained oversight-and so I request your prompt response to these charges and my concerns.

Sincerely,

JOHN CORNYN

The Politics of Shame: Nancy Pelosi's "Frightening" Propaganda Machine

In a video that should give the viewer a glimpse of the upcoming latest slander campaign from the far left liberal camp, Nancy Pelosi issued her latest call to the troops in her propaganda battalion:

“Let’s make sure everyone knows the Tea Party crowd is frightening”.

Last Thursday, in a news conference, she gave a stunning high drama performance. All the elements were there: The crying, the pauses for effect leaving her at a loss for words, and references to past violent acts that have absolutely nothing to do with what is occuring in the Tea Party movement.

Here are some highlights from an article on Nancy’s statements written by Laurie Kellan at the Associated Press:

“WASHINGTON – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that the anti-government rhetoric over President Barack Obama’s health care reform effort is troubling because it reminds her of the violent debate over gay rights that roiled San Francisco in the 1970s.”

End quote. The same article goes on to say:

“On Thursday, Pelosi was answering a question about whether the current vitriol concerned her. The questioner did not refer to the murders of Milk or Moscone, or the turmoil in San Francisco three decades ago. Pelosi referenced those events on her own and grew uncharacteristically emotional…….Pelosi’s office did not immediately respond to a request for examples of contemporary statements that reminded the speaker of the rhetoric of 1970s San Francisco.”

End quotes of Ms. Kellan’s article, Associated Press. You can read entire article by clicking here.  To see Nancy’s high drama performance on tape, you can watch the video of this charade by clicking here. Here is a quote from Pelosi in the video:

“I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw … I saw this myself in the late ’70s in San Francisco,” Pelosi said, choking up and with tears forming in her eyes. “This kind of rhetoric is just, is really frightening and it created a climate in which we, violence took place and … I wish that we would all, again, curb our enthusiasm in some of the statements that are made.”

Nancy never did bother to explain how she relates the murder of gay activist Harvey Milk to the Tea Party movement, nor has she been able to provide any evidence of this “danger”, or of Nazism, on behalf of the participants of the Tea Party efforts. She’s just “frightened”. Could it be she is really just frightened that her political career is rapidly declining? Or that her effort to force Socialism down our throats is not going over so easily?

Not content to slander the Tea Party movement unjustly as “Nazis”, Nancy has now unleashed the fear tactic. This is troubling, but not surprising. Fear is the tactic of tyranny and is used in many ways. As is slander, as is scapegoating.

Joe Wilson is an excellent example of scapegoating. And Hitler loved slander. His slander and scapegoating tactics convinced the German people that six million innocent Jews deserved to be butchered and sent to the ovens.

Shame on you Hitler. And shame on you Nancy Pelosi for your perpetual attempts to shame and slander decent Americans as mentally deficient Nazis who are a threat to the nation. If there is anything “frightening” going on here, it is the hate campaign you are continuously unleashing against these innocent people from your podium on the Hill. That is frightening, and it is disgraceful.

I said as soon as I saw the video that the “these people are frightening” mantra would now become the new liberal propaganda against those who oppose them. And it has. It took no time at all for the far left to rally to that cry, and even for local editors to print articles about the Tea Party movement based on Nancy’s unfounded and melodramatic performance.

Only Madam Speaker Pelosi knows why she is so frightened. But we should all be frightened of her rhetoric. We have seen this slander tactic before (see Hitler).

The American people watching from the sidelines are not sure what is going on. All they know is that according to Nancy Pelosi and her liberal left propaganda machine – which includes the mainstream media, we are Nazis, we are racists, and we are supposedly dangerous.

It never occurred to her that we are simply Americans who are exercising our Constitutional right to protest efforts by her party to destroy our beloved country with Socialism. And that, is the real danger. The only thing Americans should be “frightened” of is the success of such efforts by the far left liberal wing.

As we pray for the safety and peace of both our nation and our President, let us also pray that the threat of the agenda of the far left vanishes from the national landscape with the light of understanding shining boldly upon it:

May that understanding drive the troubling agenda of liberals from the shadows, and into the blinding light of day, where it can be exposed, and seen to be the disturbing and un-American politics that it truly has become.

And before we condemn innocent Americans as Nazis and a threat to society, let us also dare to recognize the Politics of Shame for what it is: A disgraceful tactic to gain political power on the part of the left – who has repeatedly demonstrated they are so devoid of moral and ethical conduct, that they would embrace slander, and rally beneath it’s foul and tyrannical banner.

Be proud of yourself America for not bowing down to the lie. I know you are not Nazis, and I know you are not dangerous. I salute your endeavors. Godspeed, and for everyone’s sake, may you prevail with peace, with dignity, and with the honorable colors of our sacred banner flying freely in your midst, as you exercise the liberty that is your birthright through the sacrifices of our founding fathers.

They are marching with you in spirit, it is their just cause you have rallied too, and it is your inalienable and Constitutional right to continue the animating contest for freedom.

“If ever time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seals in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin”~Samuel Adams

The Next Bailout

The Ministry of Truth’s paper cousin is suffering from chronic laziness and abject dishonesty. And our President is “open” to the idea of YET ANOTHER BAILOUT.

I guess when he told  Wall Street, “Those on Wall Street cannot resume taking risks without regard for consequences, and expect that next time, American taxpayers will be there to break their fall.” (NY Daily News).

But that was evil Capitalist Wall Street.

The newspapers are a different thing. Especially, as they are part of the Ministry of Truth.

“Journalistic integrity, you know, fact-based reporting, serious investigative reporting, how to retain those ethics in all these different new media and how to make sure that it’s paid for, is really a challenge,” Mr. Obama said. “But it’s something that I think is absolutely critical to the health of our democracy.”

Is he reading the same newspapers I gave up on?

These would be the same ones that tried hard to ignore the ACORN story, right? Or the Van Jones Story, or Sonja Sotomayor, Rev Wright, Bill Ayers, Obama’s “Czars”,  the fake Bush military service story,  just like their media cousins.

The same media cousins who often own the newspaper to. Here in Phoenix, the largest newspaper in the state, The Arizona Republic is owned by Gannett Broadcasting.

Incest is best.

And some of the traffic lost to the paper has been made up on the internet, but there is currently not any really efficient business model to make that work very well.

So let’s just bail them out!

After all, they are vital tool in the Ministry of Truth propagating of propaganda.

Azcentral.com: Top headline Today

Arizona is receiving $66 million from the federal stimulus package to revive more than 30 stalled affordable-housing projects for families, seniors and the disabled.

The low-income residential projects range from the Catherine Arms apartments for Native Americans in downtown Phoenix to the Santa Fe Springs subdivision for families in Sierra Vista.

So the Catherine Arms apartment as only for Native Americans?

Actually, with little digging you find that it’s a homeless and low-income housing project with a group called  Native American Connections involved touting it’s  recognized as a premier Native American service and development organization and it’s aimed at being a cultural center for Native Americans in the Phoenix Area and it was scheduled to open July 2009 but didn’t.

So which story is more in-depth and precise?

And they said 30 projects but only mentioned 2, 1 for Native americans and 1 for seniors. What are the other 28?

I guess that doesn’t matter.

Mind you, this is the same paper that published this gem:

Heat discriminates.

Phoenix’s sweltering summer inflicts the most misery and illness in poor neighborhoods, a new study shows, and among people least able to protect themselves from the elements.

The disparities present threats more serious than just discomfort on a hot day, according to the study, produced by Arizona State University researchers. Prolonged exposure to heat can cause illness or even death. The densely developed nature of the hottest areas also means more of the people most vulnerable – the elderly, children, the homebound – live in the neighborhoods where the risk is greatest.

That link between money and the ability to cope with extreme weather emerged clearly in the research. Among the startling revelations: For every $10,000 an area’s income rises, the average outside temperature drops one-half degree Fahrenheit.

“It’s an environmental-justice issue,” said Darren Ruddell, a geographer who led the study. “The people who are most vulnerable are also living in the worst conditions. It’s a double whammy.”

So that’s why I turned up my thermostat 7 degrees when I got a whopper of an electric bill in July!

I was being discriminated against!

Oh, wait, I’m a lower middle class white “racist” independent  conservative.

Whoops!

And that for “every $10,000″ does that mean that the people in Paradise Valley and North Scottsdale live in Ice Caves it’s so cold? (There are 100 $10,000 in a million so multi-million dollar houses must be near below zero! on “average”)

Now that’s journalism for you!

“I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding,” the President said.

Sounds very much like the Ministry of Truth to me.

Several bills have been introduced in Congress to aid the newspaper industry, including a Senate measure that would allow newspaper companies to restructure as nonprofits with a variety of tax breaks. The President was noncommittal about the legislation but said: “I haven’t seen detailed proposals yet, but I’ll be happy to look at them.”

Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) has introduced S. 673, the so-called “Newspaper Revitalization Act,” that would give outlets tax deals if they were to restructure as 501(c)(3) corporations. That bill has so far attracted one cosponsor, Cardin’s Maryland colleague Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D).

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had played down the possibility of government assistance for news organizations, which have been hit by an economic downturn and dwindling ad revenue.

In early May, Gibbs said that while he hadn’t asked the president specifically about bailout options for newspapers, “I don’t know what, in all honesty, government can do about it.”

But remember, no more bailouts! He said so.

Just like “Not one dime”

“95% will receive a tax cut”

“will not raise the deficit”

Obama said that good journalism is “critical to the health of our democracy,” but expressed concern toward growing tends in reporting — especially on political blogs, from which a groundswell of support for his campaign emerged during the presidential election.

So when he was running for President they were good. Now they worry him, why?

“I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding,” he said.

So does that go for the blogs that helped get him elected then too?

Then this kicker from the far-left blogosphere: The Daily Koz

I do not believe, however, that President Obama is correct when he implies that journalistic integrity is absent on blogs and that fact-based reporting is only reserved for newspaper reports. The reality is that our media (even the traditional newspapers, television and radio) are primarily opinion-based.

Honesty from the far left, who’d have guessed!

It continues:

But back to newspapers. The problems newspapers have faced are greater than the obvious ones. People look at the financial struggles, but one thing to look at is the shift from newspapers being a watchdog to newspapers being a business. Nowadays, everything is a business. Newspapers have always been a business, but that part of it was in the background for a long time until new media platforms developed. Now, the struggles of newspapers as a business have moved to the forefront because of newspapers closing, laying off employees or having to make other cuts.

Like any business though, the fault lies with the newspapers. They chose to, initially, resist new media and even start a pseudo-war with blogs and new media platforms because they were nothing more than places for people to go anonymously and post opinions and stories without facts. Blogs then started becoming their competitors and that’s when they decided they needed to jump on board.

Newspapers, like Kodak, Ford and GM, once was a great American innovation. But newspapers failed to embrace the future. Now they are years behind and will continue to struggle unless they adapt to the new ways of the world.

So let’s bail them out!

Anyone seen my Edsel?…

And I believe in the Tooth Fairy

The Liar-in-Chief, who keeps claiming he won’t raise our taxes by one dime, is now lying about the coming health insurance mandate. Mandate is a neutral-sounding word, but what it amounts to is a tax on everyone who now does not wish to purchase health insurance. From the AP story:

President Barack Obama says requiring people to get health insurance and fining them if they don’t would not amount to a backhanded tax increase. “I absolutely reject that notion,” the president said.

Blanketing most of the Sunday TV news shows, Obama defended his proposed health care overhaul, including a key point of the various health care bills on Capitol Hill: mandating that people get health insurance to share the cost burden fairly among all. Those who failed to get coverage would face financial penalties.

I’m pleased that he can “absolutely reject that notion.” True, the fines are not labeled as “taxes.” But that’s what they are: a tax on your liberty, your right to not carry health insurance.

Now, one may make a reasoned argument that it is everyone’s civic duty to be insured, so as not to be a burden on your fellow citizens when you need health care. But for the government to impose a fine? Any time the government requires money from you for a service that you neither requested nor desire, that’s a tax by any other name.

Want more lies from Obama? Consider this statement:

“Right now everybody in America, just about, has to get auto insurance. Nobody considers that a tax increase.”

He’s so adorable when he doesn’t have a teleprompter. That “just about” is sooo folksy. But here he is ignorant or lying. Auto insurance is needed as a public safety measure. You don’t have a right to drive; it is a privilege and the state exacts fees from you to help pay for maintaining the roads.

The requirement for insurance is to protect you and your fellow citizens when you have an accident. You may hate paying it, but it doesn’t go to the government, and you do have a choice: if you don’t drive, you don’t pay. Is this a realistic choice for many of us? Not really, but it is a choice.

Further, auto insurance is not a “tax increase.” It’s not a tax, it’s a fee for insurance, and it’s not an increase as it’s been around for many years. And, we trust, not many drivers are violating the law by not carrying auto insurance.

The “mandate” for health insurance is a bad idea for a free people: it makes us that much less free. And this continues the troubling trend under Obama.

Obamaland- nearly a year in

I know many of my email friends are sick of my doom-and-gloom rants, so here’s a little folksy take on the same stinking mess:

Obama’s Fight for Reform-

Lay off the footwork and throw a punch!

By Joe Bageant

“Almost a year after the Great Giddy Swarming of the Obamians last November, some of the revelers are waking up with one booger of a hangover. And they are asking themselves, “What were we thinking when we had that tenth drink of Democratic Party Kool-Aid?” It was a clear cut case of seduction and date rape. The spike in the drink was, of course, hope. Poor pathetic American liberals. Forever doomed to be naive freshmen at the senior beer bash……”

Background Articles and Vdeos Richard Norton Smith

“…Richard Norton Smith (born Leominster, Massachusetts in 1953- ) is an American speechwriter and historian. “There’s no excuse for a dull book, a dull museum, or a dull speech,” says Richard Norton Smith. “Especially when dealing with history – the most fascinating subject I know.” His unstuffy approach to the past, combined with his trademark humor, flavors the commentary he provides regularly on C-SPAN and The Newshour With Jim Lehrer.

Born in Leominster, Massachusetts in 1953, Mr. Smith graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1975 with a degree in government. Following graduation he worked as a White House intern and as a free lance writer for The Washington Post. After being employed as a speech writer for Massachusetts Senator Edward Brooke, he went to work for Senator Bob Dole, with whom he has collaborated on numerous projects over the years.

Mr. Smith’s first major book, Thomas E. Dewey and His Times, was a finalist for the 1983 Pulitzer Prize. He has also written An Uncommon Man: The Triumph of Herbert Hoover (1984), The Harvard Century: The Making of a University to a Nation (1986) and Patriarch: George Washington and the New American Nation (1993). In June 1997, Houghton Mifflin published Mr. Smith’s The Colonel: The Life and Legend of Robert R. McCormick, which received the prestigious Goldsmith Prize awarded by Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School, and has been described by Hilton Kramer as “the best book ever written about the press.” Currently Mr. Smith is at work on a biography of Nelson Rockefeller, a massive project involving thousands of pages of newly available documents, as well as more than 150 interviews with Rockefeller associates.

Between 1987 and 2001, Mr. Smith served as Director of the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum in West Branch, Iowa; the Dwight D. Eisenhower Center in Abilene, Kansas; the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and the Reagan Center for Public Affairs in Simi Valley, California; and the Gerald R. Ford Museum and Library in Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor, Michigan respectively.

At each of the libraries he contributed to significantly higher public visitation through major temporary exhibits, imaginative public programs, and educational outreach efforts. In addition to expanding and renovating the Hoover Library, Mr. Smith overhauled the permanent exhibitions at Hoover, Reagan and Ford. In 1990 he organized the Eisenhower Centennial on behalf of the National Archives.

In 2001 Mr. Smith became director of the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas, where he supervised construction of the Institute’s landmark home and launched several high profile programs. In October, 2003 he was appointed Founding Director of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, in Springfield, Illinois. In two and a half years he turned around the troubled project, which has since received international acclaim for its innovative approach to history. During this same period, Mr. Smith also served as Executive Director of a revitalized Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation, which doubled its endowment under his leadership.

On February 12, 2009, Mr. Smith was a featured speaker at the Congressional Bicameral Celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s 200th Birthday, held at the U.S. Capitol. He concluded his speech with the line, “Long before he was the President against whom all others are measured, Abraham Lincoln was the American we might all aspire to be.”

Mr. Smith is presently a Scholar in Residence at George Mason University in suburban Washington, D.C. …”

Woodrow Wilson

“..Thomas Woodrow Wilson, Ph.D. (December 28, 1856–February 3, 1924)[1] was the 28th President of the United States. A leading intellectual of the Progressive Era, he served as President of Princeton University from 1902 to 1910, and then as the Governor of New Jersey from 1911 to 1913. With Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft dividing the Republican Party vote, Wilson was elected President as a Democrat in 1912. To date he is the only President to hold a doctorate (Ph.D.) degree aside from those who have held JDs, and the only President to serve in a political office in New Jersey before election to the Presidency.

In his first term, Wilson supported a Democratic Congress to pass the Federal Reserve Act,[2] Federal Trade Commission, the Clayton Antitrust Act, the Federal Farm Loan Act and America’s first-ever federal progressive income tax in the Revenue Act of 1913. In a move that garnered a backlash from civil rights groups, and is still criticized today, Wilson supported imposing segregation in many federally-funded agencies,[3][4] which involved firing black workers from numerous posts.[5]

Narrowly re-elected in 1916, Wilson’s second term centered on World War I. He based his re-election campaign around the slogan “he kept us out of the war,” but U.S. neutrality would be short-lived. When German Foreign Secretary Arthur Zimmermann sent a message to Mexico offering to return Arizona, New Mexico and Texas to them if they would ally with Germany in the event of war, and began unrestricted submarine warfare, Wilson wrote several admonishing notes to Germany, and, finally in April 1917, asked Congress to declare war. He focused on diplomacy and financial considerations, leaving the waging of the war primarily in the hands of the military establishment. On the home front, he began the United States’ first effective draft in 1917, raised billions in war funding through Liberty Bonds, set up the War Industries Board, promoted labor union growth, supervised agriculture and food production through the Lever Act, took over control of the railroads, enacted the first federal drug prohibition, and suppressed anti-war movements. National women’s suffrage was also achieved under Wilson’s presidency.

In the late stages of the war, Wilson took personal control of negotiations with Germany, including the armistice. He issued his Fourteen Points, his view of a post-war world that could avoid another terrible conflict. He went to Paris in 1919 to create the League of Nations and shape the Treaty of Versailles, with special attention on creating new nations out of defunct empires. Largely for his efforts to form the League, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1919, during the bitter fight with the Republican-controlled Senate over the U.S. joining the League of Nations, Wilson collapsed with a debilitating stroke. He refused to compromise, effectively destroying any chance for ratification. The League of Nations was established anyway, but the United States never joined. Wilson’s idealistic internationalism, now referred to as “Wilsonianism”, which calls for the United States to enter the world arena to fight for democracy, has been a contentious position in American foreign policy, serving as a model for “idealists” to emulate and “realists” to reject ever since.
