The Basic Reasons

It is difficult to be unaware of the widespread human rights abuses China has inflicted upon its own people: forced abortions, sterilizations, and birth control; low religious tolerance, forcing non-patriotic religious groups underground, and imprisoning or even killing religious disidents; an utter lack of free speech; the moral and social reasons go on and on. If a country, or really any business entity, with the manufacturing power of China committed similar atrocities, it is to be hoped that most people would never stand for it. For instance, if a local store was widely known as a front for a prostitution ring, that would hopefully serve as a cry to the consciences of the local citizens to, at the very least, avoid doing business with the company. Taking this rationale to a greater and distractingly daunting level, I will not be doing business with China for the entirity of 2010.

Will China be aware of my boycott? Most likely not.

Will this put a burden on my retail adventures? Most certainly.

Will I single-handedly bring down China’s mercantistic clutches in 2010? This is improbable.

Will I sleep more soundly at night? This waits to be determined.
